A slow day on the ghats: a quiet Rishikesh itinerary
9 October 2026 · 3 min read
Not every day in Rishikesh needs to be full of adventure. Here is an easy, unhurried day by the river, which also works as a rest day between activities.
Early morning: walk by the river
Mornings are the quietest time at the ghats. Walk along the riverside, watch the town wake up and sit for a while by the water before the crowds arrive.
Late morning: a slow breakfast
Rishikesh is full of small riverside cafes. Pick one with a view, order something simple and take your time.
Afternoon: the footbridges
Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula are the two suspension footbridges over the Ganga, and crossing them on foot is part of the Rishikesh experience. Mid-afternoon is a good time for browsing the shops, bookstores and cafes on either side.
Evening: the aarti
Finish the day at the Ganga Aarti around sunset. Read our guide to the aarti before you go.
